Michele Bramlett grew up in a world of rock n roll, a culture of southern ways, and a whole lotta love.
"The music that filled the house as my sisters and I slept was a lullaby of songwriting, jamming, guitar playin, talking, laughin, and singin. The Friends. So many. The front door was always open and friends came and played music with D&B. A beautiful chaos..."
She is the first born of Delaney Bramlett of Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, and Patricia Stanley, a folk artist and art collector. Being surrounded by, infused with, and raised around music, art and immense talent, she followed in her families' creative footsteps to become a visual artist and painter.
Michele is a painter of people. Her paintings show the beauty, spirituality, and simplicity of the culture of the Human Being while stimulating the senses in a sensual way. Brilliantly colored canvasses and subtle symbolism conveying messages of peace, love, oneness, and spirituality of the Human spirit are strongly influenced by her own Native American culture. She is third generation born Cherokee (Tsalagi) and began showing her work in the summer of 1994 and participated in many group and solo exhibitions in southern California, New Mexico, and New York. She and her work have been honored in Fine Art Magazine, various news articles and online publications. She has recently illustrated "7 Priceless Prescriptions for Health and Anti Aging" by Dr. Bill Akpinar, and "The Long Way 'Round" by Victor Forbes.
"Dad was just my dad, Bonnie was just my other mom, and all those amazing musicians that were drawn to and always in our home were just Dad and Bonnie's friends that played really great music. I have a lifetime of memories. I remember Joey (Cooper) lookin after me on the set of Shindig. I remember the day that Dad wrote our "jumpin rope" song. We were out in the front yard jumpin rope and Dad comes out, not happy with the songs we were singin (probably learned them in school) and he writes some words down on a piece of paper and tells us to sing that instead. He got really excited and went inside and started writing. Dad and Bonnie took that little jumpin rope song in the studio and it was one of D&B's biggest sellers, recorded by so many artists, airplay all over the place. Our jumpin rope song was "Never Ending Song Of Love"
"I remember Rita Cooliodge cutting my bangs giving me a real groovy haircut, sitting at the piano with Uncle Leon (Russell), painting with Kaija and Uncle Eddy (Olmos), being in the studio and the Beatles were there. I remember a day when Eric (Clapton) was over and Dad sat with him a long time talking to him about singing, encouraging him, teaching him. I remember him telling Eric he wanted to take him in the studio "right now". I remember my Dads best friend Duane (Allman) and how much my Dad loved him. I am a very lucky girl. I heard the very best growing up."
"My father was a mentor to so many. I watched as he took frustrated musicians and gave them wings. I also watched as he suffered at the hands of this brutal industry . My father was a brilliant artist but a poor business man. He never learned how to file his own copyright forms for his songs, he didn't understand contracts or finances. He was absolutely lost in this big bad part of the music world."
Michele founded Poor Elijah Foundation to honor the mentor in her father. To honor his music and legacy. To help foster the art of the working musician and give them the necessary skills to become successful in all aspects of the music industry.
